The Oldest Nurse in the U.S. Celebrates Her 90th Birthday As She Completes Nearly Seven Decades of Service

Florence Rigney aka Seesee is the oldest nurse at the Tacoma General School of Nursing in Washington, United States. She joined the hospital back in 1946 as a student nurse and is still going strong as she celebrated her 90th birthday with her coworkers on May 8, 2015. The 90-year old nurse has loved nursing with a passion for over six decades that she has served the hospital.

The CEO and President of Multicare Health System honored the oldest nurse in the U.S. as he wrote that she has served the hospital for almost 70 years. As evident in the video, Seesee’s colleagues surprised her on her birthday with a celebration that featured the oldest nurse flaunting a glittery crown alongside a pink sash. A friend also read out a letter that the Washington Governer, Jay Inslee wrote in her honor.

Rigney was taken aback by the hearty wishes and cheers she got from her colleagues. The oldest nurse thanked each of them and joked, “I know I’m a pain in the you-know-what.” Seesee currently discharges her duties as a surgical nurse at the hospital twice a week. She stopped working directly with patients during their surgeries in 2013. Instead, she now sets up the operating rooms prior to the start of each surgery.
