Most Famous Video Game Voice Actors of All-Time
Most of us value aspects such as graphics, gameplay and music in games over all others. It’s quite interesting to note how poor voice acting can taint the image of an entire video game. Truth is that it’s such a thankless job that many a times, most of us fail to appreciate its importance. Let us seize this opportunity to appreciate the most famous video game voice actors.
Arguably, Troy Baker is easily the best voice actor in the gaming industry. He has had the luxury to play a number of different iconic gaming characters over the years. Be it movies, television or video games, Baker has done justice to each and every character he has played. It might sound clichéd, but Baker has managed to live the characters that he has played. These include: Joel from The Last of Us, The Joker from Batman: Arkham Origins, Delsin Rowe from Infamous: Second Son, Pagan Min from Far Cry 4 and Booker DeWitt from Bioshock: Infinite.
It would be criminal not to mention Mark Hamill in the list of the finest video game voice actors. This is a man who not only plays but lives and breathes the character of The Joker. Interestingly, Hamill made his mark as The Joker in the animated Batman series. Ever since that performance, people have known that to be the best depiction of The Joker, and rightly so. Similarly, he starred as The Joker in the Batman Arkham series which has done wonders to the game series. No wonder he has become the definitive voice for The Joker.
Primarily renowned for the much loved character of Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series, North is the voice behind a number of different versatile characters. That’s not all; though, he has logged some exceptional performances as Deadpool, Wolverine, The Penguin, The Prince and Ghost Rider. It’s no surprise that the American actor has been nominated multiple times for the Best Performance by a Human Male.
Oh, how can we possibly forget that raspy voice of Snake from the fan-favorite, Metal Gear Solid series? Kiefer Sutherland later replaced Hayter for the role for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Though, Hayter remains the voice behind Snake and is dearly missed. Next time someone says Snake, you would most probably remember Hayter rather than Sutherland, unless you are an unreasonable fan who still has not gotten over the TV show ’24’.
Hale has been in the gaming industry since 1994 and is still delivering stellar voice acting performances in video games. Not only did she make an exceptional female Shepard in Mass Effect, she is known for voice acting for Bastilla in Star Wars: KotOR, Commander Sarah Palmer in Halo 4 and Samus Aran in Metroid Prime series. If you are looking for one of the best and most renowned female voice actors out there, Jennifer Hale fits the script.
